Ingredients
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
For rolling
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 ½ tbsp ground cinnamon
Optional:
A pinch of nutmeg in the cinnamon-sugar mix
Brown butter instead of regular for deeper flavor
Frosting drizzle or white chocolate dip
Instructions
Mix dry ingredients In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
Cream butter & sugar In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs & vanilla Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
Combine Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet until a soft dough forms.
Chill the dough Cover and refrigerate the dough for 30–60 minutes for best texture.
Roll & coat Combine cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl. Scoop dough into 1-inch balls and roll each one in the mixture.
Bake Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9–11 minutes, until edges are set but centers still look slightly soft. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.
